Beginner-friendly? nope
The good: "4URMIND" is the final EP from the now retired splitter alias, and as far as final EPs go, it's surely on the stronger side. That's largely because it packs an absolute punch. Hefting dense dubstep drops and hybrid trap leanings, splitter hurtles through every nook and cranny of the underground dubstep scene he can squeeze into this project, whisking powerful bass hits through stomping riddim leads and... jazzy elements? I mean, it's weird, but it works — amidst all the stank-faced bass, jazz interjections, and brash samplework, splitter leaps through the hoops of bass music with ease and adds a couple more of his own as a farewell.
The bad: With so much going on in the mix, "4URMIND" is not an easy project to listen to. And a couple of the most aggressive cuts on this project are just a little too much for me.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
RISE | Wonderful jazzy intro with some very nifty sampling and a big final drop that lacks impact but feels very expansive and grand | Standout |
MIND | Thickly laid trap intro and some very strong basses with a messy yet weirdly addictive flow | Intense |
DEADWIRE | Big fan of the sampling and the aggressive, collapsing segments — has a lot of unidirectional drive | Intense |
YEAH RIGHT | Pretty simple stabby riddim with a swanky sax interjecting at times, though I'm not a big fan of this stylistically | Heavy |
SLICE | The vocal slots in well to this aggressive melodic dubstep cut, with powerful basses and strong builds | Standout |
LOSE IT! | Probably the most aggressive cut off the EP, still has the jazzy sections but just an insanely drilling first drop | Heavy |
