Beginner-friendly? no.

The good: Well, the cover art is pretty fire, I guess. And some of the hip-hop influences are nice to have. I really don't have much to put here.

The bad: I respect Codd Dubz for trying to bring in some underground hip-hop ideas into "Canal Street Crook", but like, you gotta produce well too. And unfortunately this EP does not. Most of the tracks are very short, averaging around 2 minutes, and many of the tracks rush into their drops a little too fast. That's not to say the drops are appealing either, often being empty and lasery and overall with not much substance. The rap isn't even that good, and it's still the highlight — I'd take it any day over this overly abrasive, clashing, metallic production with twinges of trap and very few actually new ideas. Oh, and "14 Grams (Outro)" might just be the most unnecessary-feeling track, ever.

Name Comments Superlative
Canal Street Crook Pretty clean rap verses, but the drop hits and from there it's just painful, with sustains and metallic sound design Standout
Wheel Bite Wack ass basslines behind wack ass rap and wack ass lyrics with some silly production and vocal choices — fun but I'd rather not Fun
Lock & Load Short track with loud punchy mixing and lasery drops, not too egregious... but pretty egregious Heavy
Face Lift Pretty solid rap performance from XAE, but damn, this empty drop is really not for me Intense
14 Grams (Outro) Why does this exist? A rap skit, for the most part, with a weird bassline that kicks in for like 5 seconds Structural
