Beginner-friendly? i'm not actually sure
Stark black-on-red polarity and covert eerieness illuminates IMANU's distorted, almost industrial approach to his "Entangled" EP.
The good: IMANU's well-respected stylistics can always be heard behind the sound design of "Entangled" — juddering, clashing, distorted, yes, but always with that promise of precise, glimmering production behind it. Arranged to five distinct, well-balanced vocalists, "Entangled" holds a consistent, maintainable, yet intrinsically appealing idea to it, something not many EPs are able to achieve.
The bad: I didn't save as many tracks as I had hoped I would. Mainly, I feel like IMANU overdid it a little on the whole raw industrial gig, so a couple of the sections feel a little clunky and jarring to listen to — and, in contrast, I felt like he sacrificed a little too much on the structural side for "Entangled" to hold its structural integrity.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Chaos | Airy, floaty, storytelling vocal takes the spotlight, backed by a nice progressive atmosphere that moves into its own spotlight | Atmospheric |
It Doesn't Matter | Pretty simple house tune, has IMANU's sound design written all over it with a consistent vocal layed on top — a bit same-samey though | Melodic |
Hush | Don't hate the vocal — don't love it either — but these shuddering drops and use of breakbeats are fantastic | Dark |
All Too Late | I dig this vocal and, though the structure is pretty linear, the neuro-leaning drops are clean, though the distorted parts are a bit much | Intense |
Kintsugi | Another strong vocal performance and more strong drum n bass, just an overall strong finale track | Standout |
