Existentia - Slippy

Genre: Future riddim

In short: "just some really damn good future riddim"

Rating: 85

Cohesiveness: 50

Track quality: 88

Beginner-friendly? mostly not

The good: Embracing his dubstep era, Slippy puts out this 5-track melodic blaster on Monstercat, imbued with the colourful destructiveness of future riddim. Using both stabby, heavy production and melodic, rhythmic sound design, Slippy bends future riddim to his own will in a fascinating manner, each in a slightly different way for each of the 5 tracks, and "Existentia" is packed with explosions of colour and brilliantly energetic sampling choices for a thoroughly engaging experience; a testament to Slippy's ability to produce practically any genre ever. And when I say this is one of his strongest genre-based performances yet, that is no small statement.

The bad: "Existentia" isn't the most cohesive project ever, nor does it really have a clear message in mind, alongside a couple of questionable musical choices.

Name Comments Superlative
Integration Sequence Love the sampling and the future riddim is colourful and hard-hitting, as is the second hardwave drop Intense
Sell Your Soul Punchy, impactful future riddim with colourful melodic stabs and some sick flow, even in the offdrop Melodic
Prophecy Not huge on the vocals, but the drops are grand and impactful, alongside strong builds and a withdrawn second drop Standout
Limitless Beautiful vocals and matching lyrics, with an incredible fluttery first drop and a more technical second Standout
2Nite Prominent, warped riddim drops that sometimes hit and sometimes don't, but I like the sampling Heavy
