Beginner-friendly? do not
It's been years, but the Tokyo Machine project has finally dropped a debut EP. And this is absolutely not what I listen to Tokyo Machine for.
The good: Some of these songs do hit pretty hard. Whilst I didn't save anything, "FACTORY RESET" would probably go off in a live environment, and all the switchups help the genre diversity a lot: from briddim to house, to techno.
The bad: Overly chunky mixes don't really do it for me. Aside from that, "FACTORY RESET" moves way too fast for a casual listener, and simultaneously tries too much and too little in terms of ideas. Perhaps I'm a little blindsided by the style switch Tokyo Machine has undertaken, but I will admit that I prefer his cutesy electro style to this brooding festival dubstep one.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
THE FURIOUS | A hint of those classic Tokyo Machine video game influences, but mostly just hard-hitting bass (nice house switch) | Intense |
MVP | This one actually kind of goes, very metallic sounding and fast-paced and abrasive, sick techno switch but it tries too much for me | Heavy |
SCREW UR FACE UP | Bass house first drop is a nice idea, similar problems to the previous two but a little more pronounced | Standout |
LOCK N LOAD | Tons of impact and punch on this one, but the mix feels a little too chunky for my liking and the ideas aren't there either | Heavy |
WATCH OUT! | I like the flow on this one and it feels a lot more polished, the more acidic lead is nice and it's repetitive but well-made | Standout |
