Beginner-friendly? for sure
Ever a master of sound, BOP plays his hand for a more atmospheric, introspective tracklist that toys with minimalism, mood, and mastery of sound design.
The good: "Hypnotics" is exactly that — hypnotic. The lull of the liquid drum n bass mingles with spotless synthwork and transforms this EP into a total vibe, a vibe that continues even into the garagey finale track. Simple is the new complicated, and BOP turns that into a statement, pushing a minimal sound that is just as atmospheric as it is intricate, with masterful production and a penchant for progression.
The bad: I don't have a whole lot to put here. Some of the sections feel a little weak or a little repetitive, but that's a very small nitpick in the full EP's context.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Cravings | Quiet, echoey atmosphere with some lovely drumwork and sampling, and a real sense of progression | Atmospheric |
Siren Eyes | Both DRIIA and Doktor pitch in with very good vocals and a slight synth run in the back — total vibe | Laid-back |
Dormant | Liquidy, micro sound design with Chime's colourful injection coming through, with lovely progression | Standout |
Fungification | Garagey finale with an earworm of a lead and more fantastic progression in the synthwork | Switchup |
