Convexity and KERO are everyone's favourite up-and-comers in the colourful side of the dubstep scene. I sure hope they drop an EP together!
The good: Wow, I can't believe they dropped an EP together! In all seriousness, "Naturetech" is an EP that I expected to be strong, and it was fairly strong indeed. Blending together KERO's powerful colour bass with Convexity's jazzy influences, the stylistic potential this EP holds is immense in magnitude. Well, immense in magnitude and immense in its use of the full colour spectrum, as far as the boundaries of music will allow.
The bad: I can't say I like the cheesy vocal samples a ton, as they feel irritating and also a little forced — I don't really feel like they add anything to the EP, which seems, on the whole, more focused on style blending and sound design than it is on worldbuilding. In terms of the actual sound, though, the blend between heavy and melodic can be a little too polarizing here — even for colour bass standards.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Gaia Ray | Pretty typical colour bass tune from these two, has all their signature style elements with some nice songwriting | Standout |
Eon Scepter | Some nasty sound design sections but otherwise I don't care too much for the dominant future riddim style, nor the samples | Melodic |
Night Riders | A solid R&B-esque vocal, I think all the independent elements work really well but it clashes a bit when you put it together | Heavy |
Dream Weaver | This one feels much richer and more mature in sound design, atmosphere, and that final house switch | Standout |
Naturetech | Crazy finale that is all over the place in terms of... well, in terms of basically everything you can think of | Standout |
