Beginner-friendly? not in the slightest
Any EP inscribed with the Code: Pandorum branding has one foot in stompy tearout and the other foot in the deepest, darkest, dingiest depths of hell.
The good: I do like how Code: Pandorum loosens his grip on the "stompy tearout" and leans more into slightly alternative ideas, and "Nightmare Fuel" isn't too obnoxiously loud as a result. His hellish atmospheres feel more well-developed than usual, and this EP feels overall cohesively mixed and structured — at least, mood-wise.
The bad: I'd have liked to see Code: Pandorum lean a little more into his ideas, because, whilst they are indeed good ideas, the stompy tearout always makes a comeback. But it's not just a comeback, it's a watered-down comeback, like it was never really meant to be the focus anyway but somehow is — like, come on man, pick a side.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Nightmare Fuel | Powerful, abrasive dubstep tune, keeps rolling right back around and slapping you over and over | Heavy |
Death in Absentia | Balances the empty space with the stabs very nicely, flow feels lacking in some parts but is mostly well-executed | Intense |
Mahakala | This one hits you really deep, firing off bass stab after bass stab — powerful, unsettling, very strong | Standout |
Summoning | Love the ideas on this one, especially the ones concerning atmosphere, but the drops feel a little empty and indecisive | Intense |
Sinners | I think, again, this one has some nice ideas in its distinct drops, but doesn't quite sell them for me. | Heavy |
