Josh Teed embarks on the first phase of whatever fantastical journey this three-track project turns out to be the "Prologue" to — but whatever it is, you better believe I'm excited.
The good: The effortless blending between grimy UK bass and the orchestral fantasy cinematics in this EP is breathtaking. Josh Teed threads the needle perfectly between two vastly different styles, weaving together organic string/flute instrumentation with deep and dirty basswork in a manner that doesn't feel unexplored, but fresh nonetheless, and practically flawless in its execution.
The bad: Repetitive? Drags on a little? Somewhat dubious in style blending in the final track? Perhaps, perhaps, but not nearly enough to actually put a dent in this EP — my main problem is that it's only three tracks long, which is pretty much a backhanded compliment.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
The Journey Begins | Album intro that executes itself in a wonderful fantasy-oriented cinematic fashion with some neat basswork layered on top | Atmospheric |
Animus | Love all the leads here and all the fantasy stringwork is coated in a layer of dirty UK stylistics | Standout |
The Fray | Strangely peaceful yet undeniably chaotic, lots of different sound design thrown around and it still works really well | Intense |
