The good: "The Traveler" is the very first EP on Apashe's new label Majestic Collective, and it's none other than his good friend Wasiu to spearhead it with his hip-hop flow and lyricism. And he's got some pretty great flow. Paired with the classical-imbued production and stringwork from any of the featured producers, "The Traveler" is a pretty solid first EP for any label.
The bad: Whilst I'm normally a big fan of Wasiu's rap style, it felt a little hit-or-miss for me here, and many of the accompanying beats don't quite do the flows justice. Orchestral is cool and all, but "The Traveler" does feel like it lacks a little substance, other than in "Lazarus Rise".
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Lazarus Rise | Wasiu's rap is great with a well-done hook, and Apashe's orchestral future bass holds up to his standard | Standout |
Vile Delights | Clean rhythm and the fluttery production pairs well with the organs, but the "I AM HIM" at the drop is a little off-putting | Melodic |
En Route (Interlude) | A nice interlude — though it poses as a full track anyway — with pretty great flow from Wasiu, but drags on a little | Structural |
Miles Away | Niftly little bassy beat and more nice flow, a little slower, and the beat progresses well but doesn't feel brought out enough |
