Digital Reassurance - Marcix

The good: This is batshit crazy. Completely, utterly, absolutely, batshit crazy. That might even be an understatement. "Digital Reassurance" is a crunchy hybrid between riddim and complextro/electro house, a concept that's been tried many times before, but not in this way. Because Marcix has no intentions to just stop there; no, he's got bigger ambitions. What makes the "Digital Reassurance" EP such a brilliant breakout project is the stylistic choice to mash as much unfathomably deranged production as possible into what is actually quite a short average track length. Every tune on this project is a frenzied pandemonium of dense basswork and frantic high-ends, held together by evershifting leads and the strange addition of almost funky instrumentation, cementing "Digital Reassurance" as a fantastically chaotic project.

The bad: The high-end-heavy mixing is harsh, though, perhaps a bit too harsh. It's another stylistic choice, presumably, but it is a little over the top in places — even with the flow and energy as compensation. I know it's intentional, but it does hurt my ears sometimes.
