The good: All of these tracks are genuinely heat. 2024 proved to be a big year for Caster, and he kicked it off with his "Sorcerer's Symphony" EP on Monstercat, a 5 track project that showcases his maturation as a producer as one of the more cleanly produced projects he's released. Rooted in brostep but unafraid to explore beyond genre boundaries, "Sorcerer's Symphony" is a quality bass project by any metric, and it still holds that typical dark twinge Caster has built his branding on.
The bad: Where "Sorcerer's Symphony" falls flat compared to some of Caster's other projects is its cohesiveness. Caster sacrifices some of his renowned narrative skills in lieu of having some simply well-produced tunes with a mood consistency from the choral sampling, and whilst I do appreciate that, I also find myself a bit disappointed in the lack of narrative here — although, admittedly, perhaps I set my expectations a little high.
Name | Comments | Superlative |
---|---|---|
Infortunii | Absolutely destructive smasher of a tearout tune with choral samples and distorted sound design | Heavy |
Hexed Opera | Very prominent sub and choral sampling, with bassy tearout drops that don't have as much punch but still hit hard | Intense |
Choir of the Banshees | Hard-hitting DnB roller with a neat lead in the breakdowns and more choral elements throughout | Standout |
Ostinato | Neuro breaks tune with a bit of a different stylistic flair, but goes hard anyway with thick basses and strong leads | Switchup |
Grimoire - Vocal Mix | Loved the original and love this vocal take equally as much, production is still consistent and the vocals give it a lot of power | Dark |
